CVS Summer Gas Card Deal

CVS has a promotion for the summer (ends August 28th) that if you buy $30 worth of participating products during that week you will receive a print out at the bottom that you can redeem for a $10 gas card.  This promotion resets each week, and per the CVS website so will your account.  Example… if you buy $15 worth of products this week it will not roll over for the next week.  Not all the items need to be purchased in one transaction, but can be accumulated for the week.  The $30 purchase requirement is BEFORE coupons and ECBs!  All of the items are denoted with a little blue circle with a gas pump in it so they should be easy to spot.

This week’s items include…

Folgers coffee (22.6-33.9 oz): $8.99, limit 3

Coke 2L:  $0.99, limit 5

Lysol disinfectant spray (19 oz) or wipes (80 ct): 2/$10.00, limit 4

Palmolive (10 oz):  $0.88, limit 5

Finish Jet Dry rinse (8.45 oz), gel pacs or powerball tabs (20 ct): $2.99, limit 3

M&M’s (9.9-15.4 oz): 2/$5.00, limit 4

M&M’s (19.2 oz): $4.00, limit 4

Swedish Fish or Sour Patch (14-16 oz): 2/$5.00, limit 4

Twizzlers (11-32 oz): 2/$4.00, limit 4

Gatorade or Sobe Thirst Quencher (32 oz) or Lifewater (20 oz):  BOGO, limit 8

Doritos or Tostitos (9-13 oz, excludes baked) or Tostitos Salsa (15.5 oz): 2/$5.00, limit 6

Edy’s ice cream (48 oz): BOGO, limit 4

Hershey’s singles assorted (1.3-2 oz): B2G1, limit 9

There are many match ups that you can Google search, but most are $25 and then you get the $10 gas card.  While that is a good deal… there isn’t much that I need from this list and the first place to save money is to NOT buy things you don’t NEED.

Triples confirmed!

Southern Savers has confirmed that HT will be doing triple coupons next week starting on Wednesday 05/18/11.  She has never steered me wrong when telling all about the specials that HT is going to have.  I am going to try and come up with a good list of things that I’m going to get with my smaller coupons.  I go through them and check the express lane check out function on HT’s website.  It’s a GREAT tool when you are thinking that a product would be a good deal when paired with a coupon.

Target

I went to Target on lunch today and got my free Carefree pantiliners.  There were two options to use your coupon from 05/08/11.  An 18 ct for .99 and a 22 ct for .97, so I opted for the 22 ct.  I had two coupons so I got two of them.  I noticed that the UPC is the same for Carefree as it is for the Stayfree or what not coupons that were also on the same page of the inserts, so I might try to use those at Walmart to stock up on some pantiliners… can never have enough of them and I keep them stashed everywhere.  Yes, I’m sure you all wanted to know that, but guess what… it’s part of life and you have to deal with it the best way you know how.

I also got two things of the Nivea Shave Balm for hubs.  On sale for $4.49 and I had a $2 coupon so I snagged two for $2.49 each and considering they’re normally about $6 I would say that’s a good deal.  I’m trying to get stocked on everything so this was a little plus in my column today.  However, with as much as hubs shaves, this will be gone quickly!

I’m thinking about starting another blog that is more personal.  I’ve been thinking of title names as the day progresses they get progressively worse.  Right now I think I’m at The Rants and Raves of a Lunatic, Coupon Obsessed, Full Time Working Mom of Two Wife!  What do you think???  Now, just need to find a good picture to go along with it.  I’m sure I have a great one somewhere…

Have a great day!

Flex Your "Can Do" Muscle!!!

I have received encouragement from my Halls cough drop wrapper this afternoon.  They have little sayings on the wrapper now to keep you motivated.  Or at least to make you smile!

“Don’t wait to get started”

“Get back in the game”

“A PEP TALK IN EVERY DROP” (this actually is a trademarked saying)

“Fire up those engines”

“Flex your ‘can do’ muscle”

“You’re survived tougher”

“Seize the day”

“Let’s hear your battle cry”

“Go get it”

“Keep your chin up”

The show must go on. Or work.”

“March forward”

“Get through it”

“Elicit a few ‘wows’ today”

“Power through”

I have also picked up tid bits of advice from a cigarette ad… “The best things in life are basic”

Where’s the weirdest place you’ve picked up good advice?

I have a new goal in life and that is to stock up on as much as possible with it costing next to nothing.  There is a reason behind this which I will tell all about later.  I especially want to stock up on things that don’t expire like cleaning stuff, paper products, laundry supplies, toiletries, etc. and this week at HT there is a great promotion running on P&G products.  If you spend $30 on P&G, not sure if it is select products or all, but you get a $10 Visa gift card back.  It says you have to get the form from your retailer, but I will do some digging online because P&G normally has their rebate forms online.  However, before purchasing this FOR the gift card I would see if they have them at the customer service desk first.  I am going to buy the Downy regardless.

Here is the best scenario I found and I will be doing this trip at some point before the sale resets…

(3) Downy Ultra Fabric Softener, 34 oz @ 3.59 ea

(3) Secret Clinical deodorants @ 4.99 ea

(2) Mr. Clean magic erasers @ 2.99 ea

Total before coupons $31.72

Have the coupons stacked in this order to give the cashier…

(3) Align $3 coupons (or any other $3 coupon with 37000 UPC)

(3) $4 Secret Clinical strength coupons

(2) 0.50 Mr. Clean liquid, spray or eraser coupon

$31.72 – 23.00 in coupons = $8.72 + tax

Then you get your $10 Visa gift card, so this is a “free” deal.  I am going to do this amid a larger shopping trip so I’m HOPING that it works out great.

New Approach

I have learned a bit recently and am incorporating my new lessons into my life.  I’m actually quite excited about it.

Not only am I back to my grocery budget, as I never should have stopped, but we are budgeting the rest of our lives as well.  I’m hoping this is easy as we each have an allowance that should be hard to exceed.  It’s really just getting our eating out and grocery overspending under control.  I think we can do it.  Our long range goal is to go to Ireland for ten days (not including travel time).  I have even made little stepping stones along the way as rewards once we reach a certain amount saved.

Now, with our new found goal in mind comes goals of saving even more money.  Just because I have budgeted $250 per month for groceries doesn’t mean I have to spend all of that.  The more I save, the more we save, and the closer we get to our end goal!

I am trying to go with the mantra “Every little bit helps” and it truly does.

How do you save money?

More HT Trips

I went to HT again on Friday when I got off work and was very happy at how I did.  I spent $8.14 and saved $60.88.  I don’t have my receipt with me or I would regale you with how wonderful that trip was, but I think I do remember for the most part what I bought…

The meal deal again (used my mother in law’s card, with her permission)…

2 – 16 ct Gorton’s fish sticks

2 – Ortega taco shells

2 – Breakstone sour creams

1 – HT refried beans

1 – Ortega taco seasoning

1 – Ortega taco sauce

1 lb pack of ground chicken

3 – tubs of huggies wipes

1 – Post Grape Nuts

Lysol toilet bowl cleaner

Old Spice deodorant

2 – Gillette shave gels

2 – Betty Crocker frostings

Ken’s dressing

3 – cans Dole mandarin oranges

Bailey’s creamer

I also went yesterday (Sunday) once I got my papers and would have done so much better than what I ended up doing, but here’s what I got

2 – 2L Sierra Mist (free)

3 – tubs Huggies wipes (free)

3 – Excedrin Migraine (.49 ea)

2 – Smart Balance nonstick cooking spray (.19 ea)

3 – frozen things of Welch’s white grape juice (.65 ea)

1 – Minute brown rice (frozen steamer bag) (free)

1 – tub Country Crock (free)

2 – Athenos Hummus (BOGO, 2.99 for both)

2 – Dannon Greek yogurt (0.50 ea)

2 – 1 lb Perdue ground chicken (free… 2.99 – 1Q which doubled – 1 clearance Q)

1 – Shredded Wheat (free)

1 – pack of wheat deli flat breads (3.79)

1 – cucumber (.99)

1 – HT boneless skinless chicken breast (4.16)

1 – Lays Kettle Cooked BBQ chips (1.00)

1 – Sunchips Jalapeno Jack Chips (1.50)

1 – Lays Tomato Basil (1.50)

1 – Cantaloupe (1.99)

1 – gallon milk (3.79)

1 – Bounty (8 roll pack) (0.49)

1 – 18 pk Miller Lite (yes, GASP, we drink beer) (12.99)

OOP:  41.93

Saved:  82.38

Had I not had to have the chicken (didn’t want to wait for ours to thaw), cucumber (could have bought at Aldi’s), flat breads, and the greek yogurt for dinner last night that would have taken out $9.94.  I had a coupon for the yogurt and took that into consideration when I came up with the amount for dinner.  Then, the beer… let’s take that out because that’s not really part of the “grocery” portion of the order, $12.99.  That’s $22.93 of our order, so if you take that away from the total OOP you would have $19.00!!!  Only $1 of the eVic and coupons savings was from that so it SHOULD have been $19.00 with a savings of $81.38.

I’m pretty much couponed out for this super doubles.  Unless I run across something I “have” to have, which is probably nothing, I’m done.  I have to make sure I have enough money in our grocery budget to get us through to the 15th.  BUT we will be giving the budget out a few days early this month because, well… our own reasons, but valid ones!

The meal planning is where you can prevent overspending on trips like I did, so I have GOT to get better at that…

A co-worker of mine went to her HT this weekend and was told by an employee that they are going to be doing super doubles every month.  Wouldn’t that be great if they did?  I would only shop on those weeks and then when they have their chicken on sale.
